The EU AI Act readiness
The EU AI Act entered into force in 2024 and its first rules, including bans on certain prohibited AI practices and an AI literacy requirement, have applied since February 2025. Rules for general-purpose AI models began applying in August 2025. The high-risk AI rules have now been pushed to December 2, 2027, while high-risk AI embedded in regulated products, such as medical devices, toys and lifts, moves to August 2, 2028.
This gives businesses more time to prepare, but it does not mean they can ignore compliance until 2027.
