We’re so happy to announce that Vekt has been selected as a government delegate for the International AI Summit, Ireland’s flagship AI event happening October 14 at the RDS in Dublin. It’s run by the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment alongside the European Commission, as the headline event of Ireland’s EU Council Presidency, and it doubles as the official launch of European AI Innovation Month across the EU.
The speaker list gives a sense of the fantastic conversations teeing up: Henna Virkkunen, the European Commission’s Executive Vice-President for Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, is confirmed, along with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, Zalando co-CEO Robert Gentz, Stripe CRO Eileen O’Mara, and Kerry Group CEO Edmond Scanlon. Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Ministers Peter Burke and Niamh Smyth are representing the government side, with more names still being added.
This year’s theme is “Enabling AI to Power European Growth”. The policy questions sitting underneath the theme might include the original EU AI Act deadline for high-risk systems (August 2026) and a Digital Omnibus package that would push it out to December 2027, conditional on the relevant technical standards actually being ready. Many negotiations are well underway within Ireland’s EU Council presidency this term, with leaders preparing to decide concretely what “compliant” means. That’s certainly a question we walk clients through weekly, and we know this summit will shine a spotlight on the EU AI Act and what compliance and timelines are set to be.
